Face oils debunked ... which one is right for you?

MYTH: People with oily and acne prone skin types should avoid putting oil on their face.
FACT: Not really! Not all oils are the same, sure there are heavier oils that you should avoid (olive), however, if you use the "right" oils, it can actually help control sebum production, which means less oily skin and less congestion, resulting in less breakouts.  Oils are lipophilic, which means they dissolve in fats, so you actually need oil to combat oil.  So choosing a base oil is important!  If you do find that face oils are too heavy for your skin, or you can't say goodbye to your favourite moisturiser, dilute them!  Don't miss out on the benefits, if it is too heavy, simply use less and pat the oil onto your skin, or mix a few drops into your moisturiser each day.

MYTH: All face oils are natural.
FACT: Nope, make sure you look at the ingredients before making your choice.  Natural can sometimes (a lot of the time) be misleading, companies add natural oils to their products, but the product is not 100% natural.  A common practice in the skincare industry is adding water to products to bulk them up, to make them cheaper to produce, but as you probably know oil and water don't mix, so other chemicals are added to 'emulsify' the two.  Also, any products containing water will need preservatives, more chemicals. So the 40 ingredients (that are not oils) listed on your face oil are usually chemicals to stabilise the oil/water combination.  None of them belong on your face. Our face oils are 100% natural, no synthetics, no fillers, no water and therefore no preservatives.  Just pure skin food.

MYTH: Chemicals are more effective than anything that is natural.
FACT: Essential oils are no joke. They are highly concentrated and careful formulating is involved.  We use the highest but safest concentrate of essential oils to carrier oils so you reap the benefits without irritating your skin.  Good quality face oils can be extremely potent and only a few drops are all you need.  What you will find is a lot of chemicals are designed to mimic what natural ingredients do naturally, so it makes sense to go with the original, right! From personal experience, my skin was covered in acne for 15 years, I tried hundreds of products (both over the counter and Doctor prescribed),  all chemical based with ingredients I was led to believe were the only "cures" for acne (think peroxide and acids), none of them worked, they made my skin dry, irritated, red and didn't make my blemishes budge at all.  The moment I made the switch to natural ingredients my skin calmed down, my acne disappeared and it didn't come back. I truely believe chemicals were my problem.

SO WHICH FACE OIL IS FOR YOU?
Choosing a face oil is the same as choosing a moisturiser!  You need to look at your skin and decide what you are wanting it to do.  Do you have oily, acne prone skin?  Are you concerned about wrinkles and the effects of ageing?  Do you want a light daily moisturiser? Let's have a look at your options!

Problematic Skin -While all of our face oils are suitable for oily and acne prone skin, our Bergamot + Grapeseed [ blemish therapy ] oil is perfect.  You can use it as your daily moisturiser or as a spot treatment at night.  It is a blend of oils that have been chosen because of their super power abilities in killing bacteria, balancing oil production, healing breakouts, reducing redness, lubricating pores to avoid decongestion and to assist with fading acne scarring.  We all know tea tree oil and how wonderful it is as an anticeptic, but it is just one of 8 heroes in this blend.  Whats inside? Rice Bran Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Avocado Oil, Vitamin E Oil, Bergamot Essential Oil, Clary Sage Essential Oil, Frankincense Essential Oil and Tea Tree oil.

Wrinkles / Ageing - Our Carrot + Tsubaki + Geranium [ face oil ] has been formulated with mature skin in mind, each antioxidant rich ingredient has been chosen for its ability to assist your skin in erasing and preventing lines, fading age spots and improving elasticity. Carrot Seed Oil has the ability to rejuvenate skin. Scientists think this has something to do with the “carotol,” a primary component found in carrot seed oil. The oil also has moisturising vitamin E and protective vitamin C, which work together to help encourage healing and to rejuvenate skin cells and bring new life to skin. In fact, carrot seed oil has a reputation for helping to heal eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis because of its ability to stimulate cell growth and repair damaged skin.

Daily Moisturiser / Sensitive to Normal Skin - While it may sound odd putting normal and sensitive together, our Sea Buckthorn + Juniper Berry Oil [ hydrating + cleansing oil ] is the perfect daily moisturiser for everyone! It is super light and fresh, perfect for everyday use AND doubles as a cleansing oil, which is awesome for sensitive skin that doesn't want to be cleaned with soap everyday. The oil blend is formulated to assist in hydration, clarity and general skin health. If you haven't discovered sea buckthorn oil yet, this oil is an absolute must in your skincare routine. Packed full of vitamins E and A, fatty acids and carotenoids, it provides both protection and nutrition to the skin. The fatty acids are easily absorbed by skin so that it helps keep skin slightly acidic, and inhibit unhealthy microbes. Linoleic acid (Omega 6), palmitoleic acid (Omega 7) and linolenic acid (Omega 3) promote healing of tissue damage, and the hydrocarbon prevents excessive moisture loss of skin, softens and lubricates the skin and keeps it smooth.  Juniper berry oil is an antiseptic, an astringent and soothes problem skin. It has been used for centuries in skincare as a tonic for decongesting pores and brightening dull skin.
